Da and Xiao Xing’anling Mountain in the Northeast of the motherland is a rich and beautiful place, and the brave and valiant Oroqen people lived on hunting is inhabited here on generations. Luxuriant virgin forest, quiet beautiful grassland and clear lonely river valleys feed the offsprings of the industrious and brave Oroqen people. At one time, they rely on a horse, a shotgun and a hound, all year round to catch up with the camphor roe deer and wild deer hunting in the vast woodlands. Xing'anling Mountain is their natural hunting grounds, but also their home.

 

One of the Minorities of Chinese Nation family members, Oroqen has long been engaged in the hunting production. They have simplicity and strong temper, are famous for their bravery, and known as "King of Xing'anling Mountain"

 

The clan name "Oroqen" has two meanings, namely "the people on the mountains" and " the people using reindeers." Oroqen go hunting around Heilongjiang River and Xing’anling mountain. They are mainly distributed over Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Heilongjiang Province which area ranging from the east longitude 122 ° -131 °to north latitude 48 ° -53 °. The Oroqen flag (County) in the Hulunbeier of Inner Mongolia is one of the main settlements of Orenqen people.

 

The whole population of the ethnic in China is 7004 (according to 1990 official data). The language of Oroqen is a branch of the Man-tungus which belongs to Altaic without characters. They used to speak Manchu but now they mainly speak Chinese Han Language. They believe in the shamanism, worship all kinds of nature objects, deem animistic but mainly worship their ancestors. About the Oroqen clan source, one said from the North Shiwei, the other said from nvchens , however, no conclusion can be drawn so far so that subject to further study and discuss of the historian.

 

Historically Orogen moved from Northern Heilongjiang River and sides of Wusuli River to Da and Xiao Xing’anling Mountains region. The long-term nomadic career created their courageous, tough and indomitable character. Someone had called them people on horseback and it is definitely a nation good at riding and shooting who lived on hunting in the forest of Da and Xiao Xing’anling Mountain generation after generation. Therefore their eating and drinking, singing and dancing all have shown the characteristics of hunting peoples. They are endowed with representative traditional dwelling "fairy-column" (Cuoluozi), is another example reflecting the strong influence of hunting to the nation’s way of life.

 

Until before the establishment of The People's Republic of China, the Orengen people living in the deep forested Xing’anling mountain still stuck in the late primitive society - Wulileng geographical commune stage. The social division of labor within society has not yet formed, and only a natural division of labor between the old and the young, men and women. Social production mainly depends on collective hunting and also supplemented by gathering and fishing. After the founding of the People's Republic, the state developed a series of columns of national policies to help and support for ethnic minorities in remote areas to improve their living condition and economic development. Build new homes for them in the mountain areas near the river and request them down from the mountains scattered. In 1953, it gradually realized Oroqen settlement, which put an end to the nomadic life since ancient times, also marked the passing of hunting culture...
